شہید کر بلا سید نا حضرت حسین رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے پڑپو تے حضرت امام جعفرصادق رحمۃ اللہ علیہ دین کے بہت بڑے عالم تھے۔ ایک
دفعہ کوئی شخص ان کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوااوران سے کہا:
”یا حضرت! انسان مختار ہے یا مجبور، کیا اس زندگی میں وہ سب کچھ اپنی کوشش سے کر سکتا ہے یا سب کچھ اللہ ہی کے قبضہ میں ہے۔“
امام صاحب نے اس سے فرمایا:”کھڑے ہو جاؤ۔“
وہ کھڑا ہو گیا۔
آپ نے فرمایا:”اپنا ایک پاؤں اوپر اٹھالو۔“
اس نے اٹھالیا۔
پھر فر مایا،”دوسرا پاؤں بھی اٹھا ؤ۔“
اس نے عرض کیا:
”دوسرا پاؤں تو میں اس صورت میں اٹھا سکتا ہوں جب پہلا اٹھا ہوا پاؤں زمین پر ٹکا دوں۔ یا حضرت! ایک وقت میں دونوں پاؤں زمین سے
اٹھانامیرے اختیار میں نہیں ہے۔“
امام صاحب نے فرمایا:
”جاؤ تمہارے سوال کا جواب ہو گیا۔ تم اپنے اختیار سے کھڑے ہو گئے، پھر اپنے اختیار سے اپنا ایک پاؤں اٹھایا۔ بس یہاں تمہارے اختیار کی
حد ختم ہوگئی۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے تمہیں اتناہی اختیار دیا ہے۔ دوسرا پاؤں تم نہیں اٹھا سکے کیونکہ ایک وقت میں دونوں پاؤں اٹھانے کا اختیار اللہ
تعالیٰ نے تمہیں نہیں دیا۔ اس میں تم مجبور ہو۔“
حضرت امام جعفر صادق رحمۃ اللہ علیہ کو ہرقسم کے دینی اور دنیوی علوم پر عبور حاصل تھا اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کو کمال درجے کی
حکمت اورفراست عطا کی تھی۔ بے شمار لوگ ان سے طرح طرح کے مسئلے پوچھنے آتے رہتے تھے اور وہ سب مسئلے قرآن اور حدیث
کی روشنی میں حل کر دیتے تھے۔
امام اعظم حضرت ابوحنیفہ رحمۃ اللہ علیہ جیسے علم کے سمندر نے بھی امام جعفر صادق رحمۃ اللہ علیہ سے کچھ عرصہ علم حاصل کیا تھا۔
امام جعفر صادق رحمۃ اللہ علیہ نہایت پر ہیز گار، عبادت گزار، سخی اور خوش اخلاق تھے۔ ان کی پاکیزہ زندگی کو دیکھ کر لوگ دل و جان
سے ان کی عزت کرتے تھے۔ انھوں نے 148یا149 ہجری میں 67یا68سال کی عمر میں وفات پائی۔
